Insights Career Coaching

The ICN is proud to present an affordable community coaching solution.

Insights professionals facing career challenges and opportunities are lining up for peer-to-peer mini-coaching sessions led by experienced Insights Career Network volunteers, chief among them ICN Co-Founder Brian Fowler and insights industry veteran and educator Scott Worthge, who have worked in the sector and developed staff through decades of change in the research and insights professions.

1:1 CUSTOMIZED INSIGHTS CAREER COACHING

Each 30-minute 1:1 Zoom session is customized and can be focused on the participant’s world, qualifications, presentation, and/or challenges. The Insights Career Network is powered by the collective wisdom of our community. Our coaches are dedicated volunteers with deep experience in the research and insights industry. They aren’t just career advisors; they are veteran practitioners, former executives, and academic leaders who bring decades of lived industry experience, expansive professional networks, and deep technical knowledge to every session.

From navigating emerging research technologies to leading major organizational turnarounds, our coaches have been in the trenches and are passionate about paying it forward. When you book a session, you are gaining direct access to mentors who understand the unique nuances of the insights market and are committed to helping you articulate your value and find your perfect fit.

Brian Fowler was already a full-stack research practitioner (qual, quant, and data) with an MBA and a decade of experience with agencies, on the brand side, and as a consultant, when he was tagged as Chief Operating Officer of CfMC, one of the first publicly available software platforms in survey research and data analysis. Their specialty: CATI and Web, but yeah, telephone survey operations enabling thousands of interviews everywhere, calling you about surveys. That’s how it used to be done.

The full story of how he and his colleagues turned around the employee-owned company that was the backbone of major research organizations like The Gallup Organization, Maritz, J.D. Power and Associates, and much of the public polling industry will never be told. Being COO to five CEOs, reinventing and repackaging a 40-year-old software company into a leading-edge “voice-based research” pioneer, before selling to a public company, was an experience that brought constant learning opportunities and a requirement to lead individuals and teams through uncertain times.

Concurrent with his paid career, Brian has hosted hundreds of marketing, research, and insights career and industry-focused events in person and online since the 90’s as a volunteer with local and national organizations. Since 2022, he has helped tens of thousands of research professionals find inspiration and opportunity through the Insights Career Network’s LinkedIn news and jobs feed, ICN’s biweekly seekers and allies meetups, which regularly welcome more than 80, and in small group support sessions every Friday.

Scott Worthge, mktresearchguy: With over 40 years of experience in the research and insights industry, this seasoned professional recently launched mktresearchguy, a consulting firm dedicated to delivering high-impact, client-focused solutions. He is a prominent voice in the global insights community, frequently presenting “research-on-research” for prestigious organizations such as ESOMAR, IIEX, and the Insights Association. His work is defined by a hands-on approach to emerging technologies; rather than just discussing disruption, he conducts rigorous field tests to compare traditional and new methods, ensuring his clients benefit from tools that are both innovative and proven.

An educator at heart, he has spent more than two decades teaching at the university and graduate levels, including notable tenures at UC Berkeley Extension and Michigan State’s MMR program. Beyond his professional practice, he is a dedicated advocate for talent in the industry, volunteering with the Insights Career Network (ICN). In this role, he secures strategic partnerships and provides one-on-one career counseling, helping job seekers leverage their unique strengths to find their ideal roles within the research and insights landscape.
